FG Set to Launch National ID Card With Debit, Credit Card Features

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) plans to launch a better National Identity Card (NIC) that can also be used for payments and social service programs. This is a joint effort with the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System (NIBSS) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through AFRIGOPAY Financial Services.

The card, called AfriGO, is part of a scheme by the Central Bank and AFRIGOPAY to handle transactions within Nigeria, like regular debit cards.

Why the National Identity Card is Useful:

This improved identity card helps people verify who they are and access government and private services. It also helps include more people in the financial system, which can empower citizens and help with national development.
