The latest data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) shows that Nigeria’s telecommunication company, MTN, lost a record of 667,245 internet subscribers in just one month.
In earlier reports, MTN lost 178,103 internet subscribers in June as data concerns rise. This is the second time MTN Nigeria will lose internet subscribers within a year.
NCC recent reports shows that MTN’s total internet subscribers stood at 52.2 million in July 2019 while the number dropped to 51.6 million in August.
Airtel gained 350,134 internet subscribers, the only internet service subscribers that recorded a positive growth alongside Visafone with 83,482 internet subscribers.
9mobile lost another 176,575 internet subscribers. It should be noted that 9mobile has continued to lose subscribers for the past 2 years. At this point, 9mobile will need a strategic push in order to remain relevant or active otherwise it will continue to go down.
However, in terms of Market share, MTN maintained the first position, Airtel second, and Glo third.
- MTN maintains the biggest market share as competition heightens. While MTN formerly had 40% of the market share, current statistics show MTN now controls 37.2% estimated to 65.7 million subscribers.
- Airtel has finally breezed past Globacom in both internet subscribers and total subscribers.
- According to the NCC August report, Airtel controls 27.13% (47.9 million) of the total market share, Globacom with 26.76% (47.2 million) market share while 9mobile market share still remains at 9% (15.6 million).
Something should be done about 9mobile otherwise it may soon go into oblivion.
Good for them… personally I think airtel is the best when it comes to cheap data and speed…
Yomi.. sometimes I nd my friends get tired of commenting on your post due to the necessary things we have to fill first.. email and name long process
The easiest way is to register an account with wordpress, in that, you don’t have to be filling email and name all the time.
May God help 9mobile
I swear, 9mobile just cast!
Data is food to our mobile phones. I pray they even lose more than this until they come to their senses.
Well.. In terms of speed mtn still has it. As for 9mobile, I’m short of words…
9mobile don’t know the business
