Do You Still Feel The Need to Root Your Android Phone?

Back in the day, rooting Android was almost a must in order to get advanced functionality out of your phone. But times have changed. Google has made its mobile operating system so good that rooting is just more trouble than it’s worth.

You can do lots of things on a rooted phone; If you find that your phone limits you in some way, or find yourself saying “man, I wish I could <do this thing> with my phone,” then there’s probably a solution that can be achieved by rooting.

Rooting your Android phone makes you the boss of your device, you can tweak it the way you want without feeling guilty, install custom rom of any kind.

But times have change, rooting your phone no longer worth the stress.

Why Root?

Back in Android’s early days, the software wasn’t really optimized all that well, which resulted in poor performance. Installing a special energy-saving app or making GPS optimizations, without root,  were impossible.

Many backup apps, e.g., Titanium Backup, require root privileges. And, for the under-powered smartphones of yesteryear, there are tuning apps for increasing the clock speed of the CPU, a necessary measure to make the most of aging hardware. And also if I wanted to change the scheduler, or even cellular parameters in the system files, I needed root access.

I Don’t Need Root Access Anymore

Fast forward to today, and nearly all of the limitations—from big to small—have basically been addressed in the stock operating system. So many things that once required rooting and hours’ worth of tweaking are now right there out of the box.

Smartphones in their factory state are performing well enough so that I do not need tuning apps any more.

I can’t see myself rooting Android phone ever again, let alone putting a full custom ROM on it. I literally have all the functionality on my phone today that I needed to root for just a few years ago.

Do you still root your phones and why?

  1. Mr Yomi, please this isn’t part of any current post on your site but I really need your help. I have Huawei E5573Cs-933 Mifi, I realized the Unlock counter attempt remains zero, I’d been trying to resent the counter but all efforts had been futile. I tried using DC Unlocker to reset but DC won’t even detect the modem on the pc, I tried all instructions but none worked, I’m using a Windows 10 pc, had all the drivers installed, I even tried boot shot maybe it’d work but won’t work, please how do I get dc to detect the modem or do you have alternatives?

    • Unlock counter attempt remaining zero means ur mifi is locked forever or 1 more attempt. I suppose ur mifi is a V3 algo device & can only b unlocked with V3 unlock code wich i doubt dc unlocker can generate. Anyway, i suggest u try unlocking from the web based interface for your mifi.

  2. i dont feel the need again.. sir, what app can patch apps for in app support without rooting a phone

  3. If I get a phone that rooting it will not stress me I do it. But if I try and i get some complications I just leave it alone.

  4. So true. But I just rooted mine again last week. Because some paid app can’t work even after patching it. Except u are using Googleplay mod. And in order to use Googleplay mode u still need to root. I rooted mine because of Ai.typeKeyboard plus.

  5. These days I don’t use hardcore applications much. But for the sake of Google feeds, I root my phone to make Pixel Launcher a system app using es file manager.

    I love the simplicity

  6. Oga yomi, how can one flash stock rom on a bricked infinix hot note which USB debugging mode was activated before getting brick!

    • Just download the stock ROM online and use so flash tool to flash it …
Even if the phone ain’t showing ,, just make sure its off ,, then open sp flashtool on a PC ,, load the scatter file and hit download ,, connect the phone and wait for the ‘Check’ button when done … Incase it charges when you plug the device ,, then try holding the Volume+ button when connecting it and that’s all xD …

  7. Never rooted my phone before. I just use them as they come and if unsatisfied with some functions, I simply change the phone

    • Thanks for the words. What I need now is to reset the unlock counter which DC Unlocker is capable of doing but I’m having issues getting DC to just detect it. If I’m able to reset the counter, to unlock isnt an issue.
