MediaTek has unveiled a new SoC, the Helio P22. This is the first mid-range chipset to be built on a 12nm process, specifically TSMC’s FinFET.
It joins its siblings, the P23, P30, and P60, to offer device manufacturers a wide portfolio of options to keep costs low while “meeting mid-tier market demands.”
It features an octa-core CPU with Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2 GHz. The Helio P22 will support up to 13MP+8MP camera setups (at a “fast 30 fps”) and up to 20:9 maximum aspect ration, 1600 x 720 displays.
It supports 4G LTE connectivity on both SIM cards, there’s also 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and GLONASS. The company claims that it will be able to deliver exceptional battery life, but not at the risk of providing top-notch performance.
It has a low-power, “highly capable hardware depth engine for real-time Bokeh preview”.
With MediaTek Helio P22, users will benefit from Edge AI enhancements powered by MediaTek NeuroPilot. AI accelerated camera experiences including Face ID, smart photo album and single-camera as well as dual-camera depth of field features are all supported.
When Will Helio P22 be Available?
The Helio P22 is already in production and is expected to be available from June 2018.
I’m guessing this might take a while before our local brands like Tecno, Infinix, iTel and the likes adopt it if not 2019.
I think it is a good development. Probably by next year we will have cheaper phones with reasonable specs…
That would be great.
It’s a very good development
Nice one.
dats cool, i hope it wont be too expensive?
Processor Chipset are integral part of our phone with the Helio P22 another good option in the market, relatively fast and cheap. Manufacturers need more options
Hope this ones won’t overheat like the previous ones
Speechless
nice one.
Good one from them
Itel has been producing on spreadtrum naa. So nothing concern them with helio p22
Nice technology.
This is good.
Nice development, I hope tecno gets this sooner
Tecno am counting on you oooo
Good development
This would be a deal breaker! Nice one
Nice one prof kudos for the review for me mediatek technology will truly be part of the future of mobile phone.
i have always been okay with mtk chips and feel the only place they are lacking is power optimization.
